EuGMS: SIG on nutrition

The EuGMS SIG on Nutrition is glad to invite you to its next OPEN online meeting which will take place on Thursday 21st May 2026, from 10:30 to 12:00 CEST.

The agenda of the meeting is as follows:

Prof. Rocco Barazzoni
Obesity medications in older adults
Prof. Rocco Barazzoni, MD, PhD, is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Trieste, Italy. His clinical and research interests focus on clinical nutrition, obesity and its complications, and ageing. He completed his medical degree at the University of Parma, specialized in Endocrinology and Diabetology at the University of Padua, and obtained a PhD in Endocrinological and Metabolic Sciences from the University of Modena. He also conducted postdoctoral research at the Mayo Clinic and Foundation, USA. Prof. Barazzoni has held several academic positions, including Director of the Postgraduate Schools of Geriatrics and Sports Medicine at the University of Trieste. He served as General Secretary and later Chairperson of the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism and is immediate past-President of the Italian Society of Obesity (SIO). He has delivered more than 260 invited lectures internationally and has authored over 240 peer-reviewed scientific publications, with an h-index of 59 and more than 21,000 citations.

Dr. Eleonora Poggiogalle
Anabolic resistance in sarcopenic obesity: implications for nutrition and body composition
Dr. Eleonora Poggiogalle graduated as a Doctor of Medicine in 2009 from Sapienza University. In June 2016, she completed her residency program in Food Science and Clinical Nutrition. She worked as a resident doctor at the High Specialization Center for Obesity Care (CASCO), Sapienza University, Rome, which is included in the EASO COM Network. Since October 2015, she has been a PhD student in Endocrinology at Sapienza University, Rome. From November 2015 to November 2016, she was a visiting research scholar at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, USA. She prepared her PhD thesis at the “Centre de Recherche en Nutrition Humaine”, Clermont Ferrand University, France, under the supervision of Prof. Yves Boirie. Her PhD thesis was entitled “Translational insights into the phenotype of sarcopenic obesity”. She obtained her PhD degree in 2018 with the additional mention of Doctor Europaeus. Dr. Poggiogalle has participated in research projects in humans and rodents exploring the metabolic, hormonal, and functional characteristics of obesity and its different body composition phenotypes, particularly sarcopenic obesity. She has also worked on time-restricted feeding as a novel chronobiology-based approach to treating excess weight and improving lipid oxidation. She is currently based in Rome, Italy, where she works as Associate Professor at the Food Science and Human Nutrition Research Unit, Sapienza University.
