European Geriatric Medicine Specialist Exam (EGeMSE)
The Exam is optional for Belgian trainees in Geriatric medicine (not mandatory). The examination fee is not covered nationally.
The exam is designed to standardize and achieve a uniformly high standard of knowledge by geriatricians across Europe, offering the specialists the possibility to be recognized in their geriatric medicine knowledge, and ensuring that physicians meet the highest standards of clinical competence and medical knowledge, regardless of where they are trained. This will not only benefit patients by enhancing the quality of care, but also foster greater mobility for healthcare professionals, who will be better equipped to practice across national borders within the European Union and beyond.
On behalf of Prof Román Romero Ortuño, EuGMS Director of Education and Training, we would like to communicate that the 2025 European Training Requirements (ETR) in the Specialty of Geriatric Medicine have now been published by the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS).
