European Geriatric Medicine Specialist Exam (EGeMSE)
A voluntary European Geriatric Medicine Specialist Exam (EGeMSE) is available to promote harmonization of training standards and support specialist professional development across Europe. The exam is not mandatory for Belgian trainees in geriatric medicine, and the examination fee is not nationally reimbursed.
The EGeMSE aims to establish a consistently high level of knowledge among geriatricians by offering a standardized assessment that is recognized across Europe. It provides specialists with an opportunity to formally demonstrate their expertise in geriatric medicine and ensures that physicians meet high standards of clinical competence, regardless of the country in which they were trained. This contributes to improved patient care through enhanced consistency and quality. In addition, the exam facilitates greater professional mobility within the European Union and beyond, enabling physicians to more easily practice across national borders.
