Challenges and opportunity of Artificial Intelligence in Geriatric Medicine
Dear Colleagues,
In recognition of the transformative role that artificial intelligence and digital health are increasingly playing in healthcare, the EuGMS SIGs on Gerontechnology & Digital Health, Big Data, and Education & Training are pleased to invite you to a joint webinar dedicated to Artificial Intelligence in Geriatric Medicine. The webinar will explore the current and future role of AI in the care of older people, spanning from its potential to support clinical care and decision-making to the ethical, societal, and professional challenges that accompany its development and implementation.
Agenda:
16:00 – 16:05 | Welcome
16:05 – 16:45 | Ethical Challenges of Artificial Intelligence in Geriatric Medicine
Prof. Mirella Mastretti
16:45 – 17:25 | AI in Geriatric Medicine: Where will it create the most value, and what role should geriatricians play in shaping it?
Prof. Michael Denkinger
17:25 – 17:55 | Q&A + Discussion
17:55 – 18:00 | Closing remarks
Ethical Challenges of Artificial Intelligence in Geriatric Medicine
Mirella Mastretti is an independent AI scientist, researcher, lecturer and scientific manager. She has worked in Artificial Intelligence and Systems Engineering since 1988, with expertise spanning symbolic, connectionist and hybrid AI paradigms, including fuzzy logic, expert systems, neural networks and deep learning, as well as scientific standardisation, including IEEE VHDL.
Throughout her career, she has collaborated with companies, universities and third-sector organisations, including Università Cattolica network (SACRU), Politecnico di Milano, Università degli Studi di Milano and Fondazione Triulza, recognised by the European Union as the Italian Social Economy Cluster.
She is the founder of AlgoRadar, an independent interdisciplinary initiative focused on AI ethics and governance. In 2015, she was appointed Digital Champion and Innovation Ambassador on behalf of the Italian Prime Minister. She is co-founder of Talent4Rise and Fondazione Triulza, and is recognised among Italy’s “100 Women Experts” as a scientist and expert in Artificial Intelligence.
AI in Geriatric Medicine: Where will it create the most value, and what role should geriatricians play in shaping it?
Michael Denkinger is a geriatrician and researcher from Ulm University, Germany. He serves as CMO of the AGAPLESION Bethesda Hospital and as the head of the Institute for Geriatric Research in Ulm. He focuses on comprehensive geriatric assessment, frailty and intrinsic capacity, prevention, and the translation of scientific evidence into routine practice including the development of clinical guidelines. He is currently President of the German Society of Geriatrics (DGG) and board member of the professional Association of German Internal Medicine. He is actively involved in national and international collaborations with a recent focus on the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence to support person-centred care with particular interest in maintaining functional ability and independence in later life.
We warmly encourage you to join us, share your thoughts, and be part of this insightful discussion.
Please connect on time, keep your microphone muted when not speaking, and enjoy this scientific exchange with us!
