EuGMS SIG on Sarcopenia OPEN ONLINE MEETING – Wed 30th April, @11am CEST – 60 min
Dear Colleagues,
The EuGMS SIG on Sarcopenia is glad to invite you to its first OPEN meeting for 2025. The meeting will take place on Wed 30th April 2025, 11:00 am to 12:00 pm CET time.
The agenda of the upcoming meeting is as follows:
SPEAKER 1: Professor Kiyoka Kinugawa, MD, PhD (20 minutes, 5 minutes discussion):
TITLE 1: From Aging Muscle Assessment to Sarcopenia: A High-Density Surface Electromyography-Based Approach
BIO 1: Prof Kinugawa is Professor of Geriatrics at the Faculty of Health of the Sorbonne University, France. She is currently Head of the Functional Investigation Unit of the Older Person at the Charles Foix Hospital/AP-HP, a fully geriatric university hospital. She was a former Academic Board member of the EUGMS and is currently a member of the Scientific Committee of the French Society of Geriatrics & Gerontology. Her research interest focuses on the development of a device to assess muscle ageing and sarcopenia in collaboration with engineers. It combines data processing software with a non-invasive and innovative high-density multichannel electromyography technology.
SPEAKER 2: Professor Maria Conte (20 minutes, 5 minutes discussion)
TITLE 2: Lipid Accumulation and Mitochondrial Dysfunction in Sarcopenia
BIO 2: Prof. Conte is a molecular biologist interested in molecular mechanisms of age-related chronic disease. She obtained a Ph.D. in Molecular Biotechnology at Pisa University, with studies on the molecular mechanisms of stress response in planarian flatworms, known for their resilience to aging. Later, Maria focused on muscle aging and sarcopenia within the European project "Myoage", at Bologna University, publishing papers on lipid accumulation and mitochondrial dysfunction. To date she deals with studies of Perilipins and Mitokines, associated with lipid metabolism and mitochondrial stress, in modulating inflammatory response (inflammaging) and in age-associated diseases (Sarcopenia, Type II Diabetes and cancer) with the aim of identifying new molecular targets to combat age-related diseases and promote healthy aging.
SIG Update: Prof. Robin Daly and Prof. Ivan Bautmans
Short update on SIG activities including a proposed European survey on Sarcopenia targeting clinicians and healthcare professionals.
